part of Texas is receiving a large portion of this economic expansion.
(2) Climatic and environmental influences.- Climate in the area is mild and
conducive to year-round outdoor activities with a minimum amount of discomfort.
Denton's higher educational facilities, its quiet and attractive residential
areas, and the general attitude of its citizens present a highly desirable
environment in which to live.
(3) Natural resources of the area.- The most important natural resources of
Denton County today are still the same ones that brought about settlement of
the area 120 years ago. That is, the rich fertile farm land, open grassland,
and surface water supply. Water for industrial, as well as domestic, use is
a problem throughout the southwest. The fact that Denton is located near two
large man-made reservoirs does not insure the City of a limitless water supply.
Water impounded in Lake Grapevine and Garza-Little Elm is allocated to various
cities in proportion to their monetary contributions to the original construc-
tion costs, and these prorations normally cannot be increased. It has been
estimated that Denton's present allocation will furnish the City's needs until
1970, at which time some other source will be required. Detailed discussion75
