My neighbor has a storage shed which sets just
inside my property line. He * used it for years and
it is fine with me, but I'm getting ready to sell the
property and am afraid the new owners will want
it removed. Is there a simple solution?
An easement may be the answer An easement give*
someone other than the owner of the land the right to
enter or use the property for a specific reason
Easement* are most commonly granted to utility
companies for the purpose of erecting or maintaining
lines end poles on privately-owned property Usually the
easement stipulates their right to enter the property for
required maintenance If you have in mind a special
purpose easement (such as allowing a neighbor certain
access to the property after you sell you home it might
be wise to consult an attorney about executing a
property written and recorded agreement to that effect

AUSTIN. Texas lAPl - Local
feminists have taken their "Not
Quite Annual Barefoot and
Pregnant Award" out of the
attic, dusted it off and pre
vented it to Gov Bill Clements.
The Austin chapter of the Na-
tional Organization for Women
I NOW > announced the award at
a news conference Wednesday
Clements had this comeback:
"You can see I’m not barefoot
and obviously I'm not
pregnant."
Vicky Worsham, coordinator
of the NOW chapter, said de-
ments earned the award by:
—Firing the staff of the Texas
Commission on the Status of
Women without hiring re-
placements.
"The commission exists le-
gals but it doesn't have a staff."
Ms. Worsham said
—Vetoing $230,000 appro-
priated to the Texas Rehabilita-
non Commission for services to
"displaced homemakers" —
women re-entering the job mar-
ket upon divorce or wie whood.
Clements said there was
plenty of money in s arious other
state and federal programs to
provide the necessary job train-
ing for such women
— Reportedly wisecracking at
Texas A&M ihal women
"should go deep-sea diving to
exercise birth control." An
A&M scientist had just ex-
plained a research project that
indicated deep-sea diving could
damage a fetus
"I didn’t think it was funny."
Ms Worsham said of Clements’
reported remark "It was an in-
dication of a callous attitude
The text of the award said.
"It would be reprehensible lo
encourage childbearing women
to endanger the health of their
unborn children."
Ms Worsham said Clements
will receive a "suitable-for-
framing certificate." probably
by mail.
She also said the award —
despite its tongue-in-cheek
name — is meant to be taken
seriously
"I am angry with the gover-
nor." she said
Ms. Worsham said nomi-
nations were solicited from all
members of the chapter, which
has about 200 people on its
mailing list.
"No one else was nomi-
nated.” she said
The last time the award was
presented was in 1974. when
University of Texas athletic di-
rector Darrell Royal received it
for allegedly saying nobody
would pay to watch women’s
athletic events.

Blackout Got Their Attention
OSCEOLA. Ark. (AP) —
There’s nothing like a little
demonstration to liven up a
speech Ask Rita Baker, who
was lecturing on what to do in a
blackout when — you guessed it
— the lights went out.
The director of Mississippi
County’s Erergy Office was ad-
dressing a winter survival
workshop Tuesday night when
the lights and power in the au-
ditorium and most of Osceola
went out.
"Now. the first thing to do in
a situation like this is to find a
light source," she said, seizing
the chance to make her pant
"Does anybody have a
flashlight?"
Several cigarette lighters
flared. a flashlight was finally
found and the lecture continued
until the lights were restored —
with the audience’s undivided
attention
