torium. She was chosen for her

they attended the wedding on Satur-
day evening of Miss Doris Jean

the Gaston Avenue Baptist Church

number of jars of canned food and
articles of clothing that won blue,
red and white ribbons at the recent
Johnson County Fair.
A report on her trip to the state
convention held in Amarillo recent-
ly was given by the club president,

Mr. and Mrs Dalton were hosts
for a reception at their home after
the ceremony. Mrs. Lewis Chandler
| Smith cut the cake and Mrs. W. R.
Dalton, Jr., served punch.
When the couple left for a wed-
ding trip to New Orleans, La., the
bride was dressed in a sea-foam
green twill suit, a dark brown hat,
with sea foam feathers, and other
dark brown accessories. Mr. and
Mrs Smith will live in Dallas. Mrs.
Smith, a graduate of North Dallas
I High School is a former student of
Baylor University. Her husband
was graduated from Highland Park
High School. He served in the Navy
for three years.

The Woman’s Missionary Society
of the Joshua Baptist Church met -
at the church Monday for Bible
study. Mrs. Harold Brawner pre-
sided over the meeting, and the
program was opened with the group
singing. He teadeth Me," followed
with prayer by Mrs. Charles Pitts.
As a closing courtesy for her
yar as Bible study chairman, Mrs.
Seth Davis gave a review of ‘The
Gauntlet", by James Street. ...e
gave a brief sketch of the author's
life. His personal experiences in
the ministry and in the fields of
journalism and law have added im-
pact to his stories.
“The Gauntlet" is a religious nov-
el which deals with the adventures
of a young Baptist preacher in a
small Southern town. He found
strength and faith in spiritual dis-
cipline. In losing his ambition for
power, he gained a greater under-
standing of man and God that would
ultimately lead him to greater ser-
vice and happiness.
After the closing song, ‘My Faith
Looks Up to Thee,” Mrs. Brawner
gave the benediction. At the con-
clusion of the program refresh-
ments of coffee and cake were serv-
ed to about 50 members and guests

The bride was given in marriage
by her brother, W. R. Dalton. Jr.
She was dressed in a white slipper
satin gown with the long sleeves
forming petal points over the hands.
The sweetheart neckline was out-
lined with seed pearls embroidered
in leaf design. From the basque
bodice a full gathered skirt over
hoops extended into a long, wide,
heart-shaped train. The two-tiered

She is the daughter of Mn and
Mrs. E. D. Wakeland and is a
senior in the Grandview High
School.

Luncheon Monday

of the First Christian Church met
Monday at the church for a pot
luck dinner.
The program in the afternoon was
on “These Groups Look at Us," and
those taking part were Mmes Alf

Hudgins. Mrs. Hudgins conducted
the business meeting.
