Grid Play
(By United Press)
We feel like saying "Ouch!” The strong and husky-looking
local gridders just failed to click this season. That was
all there was to it and we are sort of relieved to drop
the subject. The Cleburnes won their opener from Cisco
and after this win, which was due to a pair of flukes, they
didn’t play much football.
The Jackets managed to gain a tie with Hillsboro
and played fair games against Temple and Waco. The
Jackets played perhaps their most 1 stless game Friday
night against the Corsicana.Tigers in their final, game
of the season. We would-not say they didn’t try, because
they did, but they just could not do anything right on
the gridiron that night.

Duck hunting in Texas generally
was reported as spotty, particular-
ly oh the coast, but where the ducks
could be found, they were shot down
and most parties seemed able to get
the limit.
One complaint that has been
heard from a number of hunters
concerns those who insist upon fir-
I ing at the birds long before they
come into range. This trigger-
happy group, many of the more
experienced hunters insist, usually
scares a flight away before the
birds near the blinds. Of course
they have a justifiable complaint in
that such shooting does hamper their
hunting prospect*. -

E. G. Marsh, assistant wildlife

Cherry believes the material will
be better adapted to use of the T
than this year’s squad. "We had
too many specialists this year to be
able to work them all effectively,"
he said. "For example, Bobby

so good as a runner, which made
it hard to work him at the tail-

team will be much better balanc-

Like his predecessor, Cherry has
a habit of winning football games.
He came here in 1937 as Bible's as-

in a row. In his seven years at
Amarillo, his teams never failed to
