G. Ward Paxton recently left the Allen School Board
after 14 years as trustee but his outstanding leadership
will not be forgotten by those who know him.
“He’s one of the smartest people I’ve ever known, but
he has a lot of common sense to go along with his in-
telligence,’’ Dr. E. T. Boon former Board vice-president
says.
D.L. Rountree, former superintendent of AISD, work-
ed with Paxton for many years.
“Whenever he makes a statement he has given the
matter a lot of thought. He is very fair about things and
that’s what I admire about him,” says Rountree.
Paxton’s concern and dedication to the Allen com-
munity as school board president knew no boundries.
What a person has to say is important to him. “He is a
good listener and he has high respect for what other peo-
ple have to say,” Rountree says.
Colleagues admire him because he combines an
analytical approach to problems with being open mind-
ed.
Although adjectives like analytical, observant and in-
telligent amply describe G. Ward Paxton, perhaps the
most appropriate word would be, Trustee, in the full
sense of the word.
He has been the trustee of the educational needs of the
community.
For more than a decade he was tirelessly engaged in -
balancing educational needs against financial burdens.
His legacy to the school board is dedication, courage and
wisdom. Dr. John Hom, superintendent of AISD, pro-
bably best sums up the feelings of many who have work-
ed with Paxton.
“It has been a distictive honor to have worked with
such a dedicated school trustee,” he says.

If work is the price of success then the father and son team of Glen
Betts and Glen Betts Jr. must surely be a winning duo.
Betts Auto Repair has been in business almost a year and already
business is going better than expected 54-year-old owner Betts
senior says.
Both father and son agree they have been successful through the
references of their customers.
“It’s been word of mouth mostly,” 28-year-old Betts Jr. says.
“We’re well known in Alien, have been for years,” says Betts
senior. While working at other jobs he and his son have been working
on cars for years.
Although he received an associates degree in Automotive from
Grayson County College, Betts Jr., enjoys being a partner in the
family business.
Previously, Betts senior worked for the city of Plano and Betts Jr.
worked for Cooper Automotive in Dallas.
“You could say I’ve been working all my life as a mechanic,” Betts
senior says. And even if he expands or adds on, he says he would like
to keep it a small family business.

QUESTION:! live on Meadow Meade and beyond our alley the
ditch is continually full of water. Last year we had mosquitos and
snakes because of it. What can the city do about it?
ANSWER:According to City Manager Jon McCarty the city of
Allen is aware of the problem. They are just in a holding pattern.
“The city,” says McCarty, “is waiting until the construction in the
area is done and the field there is in shape.” McCarty says he
doesn’t know exactly what needs to be done, but he says the city is
aware of the problem and they will soon provide drainage for the
water from Hillside Park.
