Her Popularity.
The following extract from a let-
ter to Mrs. Baily from Geo. H. Mc-
Laren, district clerk of Young county,
shows how she is apppreciated, it
also shows that a business honorably
conducted is profitable, as well as
pleasant:
Graham, Texas, July 28, 1903.
Mrs. Mollie Bailey, Amarillo, Tex.
Dear Madam: We are going to
have a big reunion in this county on
the 12th, 13th and 14th of August
and would like to have your show
with us on that occasion. I am just
in receipt of a letter from Mr. A.
W. Mansfield of Dallas, Texas, stat-
ing that you would be in Amarillo
for a few days, hence I write you.
We,have been on the lock-out for
you. As stated above, we would be
glad to have you at our reunion.
First, because we understand that
7 '*
you were in the service of the South-
ern army as a hospital nurse, and
secondly, because you have showed
in our little town a number of times
and each time it has been well re-
ceived, and because we are reliably
informed that you allow no dead
beats, thugs or bums about your
show. We have had some shows at
the reunion on several occasions but
they have not filled the bill in the
least for the show was not the kind
that we wanted. The Reunion Com-
mittee after talking over the matter
was unanimous in the opinion that it
would be a good thing to have you
and your show present, hence we
urge you to come.—Amarillo Star.
Hereford, Texas, August 7, 1903.
In addition to the above I wish to
say that I have known and have pat-
ronized Mrs. Bailey's show for sev-
eral years at Graham, Texas. I
can recommend her show to be first-
class in every particular. Mrs.Bailey
is the only lady that was ever pa-
roled. She held a commission from
the Confederate States Government
as hospital nurse, and when Gen. R.
E. Lee surrendered at Appomatox
Court House, she received her pa-
role as did the regular soldiers. I
venture to say that Mrs. Bailey has
done more for charitable purposes
than any other lady in Texas.
Respectfully,
F. Herrón.
