Lockridge Field Taking on New
Speed—Shooting Wells a Success.
New excitement was aroused in
the field Sunday by the bringing in
of the Jones well. This well is said
to be as good or better than any in
the field. It is 250 feet deep and
located more than a mile south of
the original Lockridge well.
This well will be shot tomorrow,
which is expected to develop it into
a phenomenal well for this field.
Col. J. D. Stine's well, just west
of and adjoining the Lockridge tract,
came in on Wednesday, but it is not
as good as the Jones well.
The Lockridge well, which was
shot some five days ago, will pro-
duce five barrels a day. A derrick
and pump have been erected over it
and it will be listed as one of the
regular producers.
E. E. Dismuke has leased Frank
Schnell's land just east of the Jones
tract and will put a rig on it at once.
J. M. Butterwerth has leased from
Wm. Hum 100 acres. The con-
tract calls for a well 400 to 500 feet
deep with an option to drill two
more. They go half and half the
expense after the 400 feet in the
first well, and Mr. Hum gets S25
an acre and half of all above that
sum when the land is scld.—Hen-
rietta Independent.
Cheap Rates to the Panhandle.
For the purpose of enlarging the
public's knowledge of the true con-
ditions holding in northwest Texas
— (the Panhandle)—"The Denver
Road" has put in effect round-trip
party home-seeker's rates to points
along its line. These rates are up-
on a basis of one fare for the round
trip for parties of five or more per-
sons traveling together on one ticket,
and carry the privileges of stop-
overs at pleasure at all points north
ot" and including Vernon, Texas;
passengers being allowed a limit of
30 days in which to return.
In view of the fact that the Pan-
handle is enjoying the most rapid
growth of any section of Texas, for
which there is ample reason, this
move on the part of "The Denver
Road" is a wise one and will doubt-
less result in the splendid agricul-
tural and business opportunities of
that section becoming better known
and appreciated within a very short
period of time. This section of
Texas abounds in resources and the
land, being still available at very
low prices, is now being rapidly
taken up.

Mr. Hess is a splendid gentleman

Harrison Sets 'Em Up.
E. W. Harrison, the popular
habberdasher, has always been a
firm believer in advertising and has
won an enviable reputation as an
adv writer. In last week's issue he
placed some local advs, one of which
read,"Bat Hides Wanted." Prompt-
ly on the issue of the paper two
young ladies, Misses Maggie Wat-
son and Kate Davidson, proceeded
to his establishment with the re-
quired article. Esca was somewhat
abashed, but soon recovered himself
and proffered "set-up" to the young
ladies with the acceptance of which
the incident passed pff pleasantly.
Moral :—If you don't want any-
thing don't advertise in the Brand
for it.
Brand Advs Bring Results.
We received this week a letter
from John Estes, a prominent stock-
man and wheat raiser of Swisher
county, enclosing a check in pay-
ment for a local adv offering for
sale a quanity of seed wheat. What
he thinks of the value of Brand
advs will be seen by a perusal of
the following:
Twist, Sept. 26, 1903.
Editor Brand,
Hereford.
Gentleman:—The little adv in
your paper has brought me several
nice orders for seed wheat.
Yours truly,
Jno. Estes.
