Interesting Items From the New
Town on the Mexico Border.
Hereford was represented again
Saturday in the wolf chase.
Buck Bishop of Floyd county,
Texas, was visiting friends in Texico
this week.
T. C. Hunt will attend United
States court at Socorro, commencing
November 23.
The tail end of that Montana
blizzard struck here Monday in a
mild, invigorating form.
Dr. T. C. Linthicum is having
lumber hauled to build another good
residence on his ranch five miles
from town.
T. J. Gamble brought his mother
from Hereford last week to reside
with him in the future at his new
home west of town.
C. D. Steele returned yesterday
from Kansas City with a crick in his
neck caused from trying to see the
top of the buildings up there, he
says.
An independent packing house will
no doubt be money saved to the
cowmen, but an independent rail-
road will be next in order to move
the cattle.
That "only" cattle guard at the
state line has been an expensive
"betterment" to the Pecos Valley
Railroad Co. if section men and
time are worth anything.
Several of Texico's sports were
kangarood and fined good round
sums for attempting to slay a pet
deer who happened to stray away
from its home a few days ago.
C. O. Leach, our tax collector, is
here this week giving the good peo-
ple receipts for their money and his
rolls show mere property per capita
in this precinct than any other in
the county.
Sam Loveless of Hereford was
here a couple of days this week and
remarked upon the wonderful growth
of the town and general improve-
ment of the surrounding country in
so short a time.

George Probasco is drilling a well
on W. S. Winters' place, 12 miles
west of town.
The Pea Vine company will have
to get a move on if that depot is
completed according to contract.
F. M. Allen sold his new store
house and lot on Garwood street to
J. W. Jerries of Henrietta recently
for $850 cash.
Uncle John Darby, surveyor in
this district, was in town Friday
after several days' absence in other
parts of the county.
J. C. Dyer's frequent visits to
Bovino lately has caused Madame
Grundy to whisper about big stacks
of cakes, with the usual presents.
Attorney Jack Harwell announces
that he will practice in all kangaroo
"kourts" in this territory hereafter
for nominal fees in advance. Your
business solicited.
Cotton picking down in Texas is
about over and a great many people
from those parts have made up their
minds to secure themselves homes
here with the proceeds of that same
cotton. They realize the fact that
in a little while good homes without
cost will be a thing of the past.
Our school directors are deter-
mined to give this community every
advantage possible in the schools it
seems. They announced yesterday
that they had rented a building in
town, employed another teacher and
in a few days would be able to ac-
commodate every pupil in the dis-
trict.
Among the new comers the past
week who will locate in this vicinity
are the following : W. S. Winters
and family of Boyd, Texas; Dr.
Brian and family of Vernon, Texas ;
Mr. Wilson and family of Wise
county, Texas; Mr. Vaughn and
family of Denton county, Texas.
All of whom have come prepared to
help develep beautiful homes in this
magnificent country. Aaron.
