O'Shaughnessy’s 25th ordina-
tion anniversary on Sunday,
April 20th at 5:00 p.m. in St.
Joseph's Catholic Church in
Yoakum.
A reception will be held in the
gym following the Mass.
Born in County Limerich,
Ireland, Father O’Shaughnessy
was the second youngest of
seven children of John and
Margaret O’Shaughnessy. He
completed his primary education
in the National School and then
received his secondary educa-
tion at a private school
conducted by the Jesuits.
Father graduated from Mun-
gret College in 1945 and spent a
year traveling before coming to
San Antonio in 1946. On
completion of four years of
Theology at St. John’s Seminary

April Rainfall
6.04 Inches
Monday morning rainfall of
1.5 inches between 3 and 5 a.m.
brought the Yoakum April
rainfall total to 6.04 inches,
according to weather observer
Leo Brier. Rainfall last week
Friday totaled 2.10 inches in
Yoakum.
Rainfall was scattered, some
areas receiving more, others
less. Only more than an inch was
recorded for the April period at
Victoria and likewise at
Yorktown where 1.25 inches fell
Monday.

questioning Houston in Victoria,
it was learned that a car taken
from Voskamp Motors in
Hallettsville was in Taylor. The
Austin DPS investigated and
found the stolen vehicle at a
Taylor tavern and implicated
Moore with the thefts.
Moore was arraigned in JP Bill
Hrncir’sCourt here and bond
was set at $5,000 on a charge of
unauthorized use of an
automobile. He is being held in
the county jail in lieu of the said
bond
Meanwhile. Houston was
being held in Victoria County
Jail in lieu of several bonds,
charged in the 34 - car theft
incidents. Sgt. Brush reported
the thefts allegedly began in
K. C.’s Plan
Stag Supper
The Yoakum Knights of
Columbus have completed plans
to stage their 4th annual stag
supper which will be held
Friday, May 9th, beginning at
5:30 p.m. at the Morris
Community Center.
Tickets are now being sold and
are available from most K. C.
members and are also available
at Turk's Barbecue Pit.
Barbecue will be on the menu for

The 16th Annual Hope 4 - H
Livestock Show was held April 11
at the Hope Community Barn.
The animal and cake sales
totaled $8,263.91. The many-
generous donations totaled
$410.00. Approximately 500
hamburgers were sold and many
cakes, pies and drinks were also
sold.
Grand Champion calf was
shown by Randall Jacobs. His
calf w eighed 727 pounds and was
purchased by Elo's Grocery for
$1.31 per pound. ($952.37).
Frank Hickey showed the
Reserve Champion calf which
weighed 713 and was bought by
First State Bank for $1.31 per
pound. ($052.37.)
Grand Champion sheep, shown
by Lisa Smith, weighed 105
pounds and was purchased by
Hallettsville Livestock Commis-
sion for $4.05 per pound,
($425.25).
Judy Williams received
$298.35 for her Reserve
Champion sheep which weighed
85 pounds and was purchased by
Yoakum Federal Savings and
Loan for $3.51 per pound.
. Grand Champion Hog was
shown by Steve Franz. His hog
weighed 310 pounds and was
bought by City Meat Market for
$2.05 per pound. ($635.50).
Mickey Franz was the
exhibitor of the Reserve
Champion Hog which weighed
221 pounds and was purchased
by People's State Bank for $2.05

Cathedral by Archbishop Robert
E. Lucey.
Father’s assignments in the
Archdiocese included St. Peter,
Prince of Apostles, Saints Peter
and Paul of New Braunfels; and
St. Philips and St. Leo’s in San
Antonio. He also served as
assistant at Shiner, Moulton and
Schulenburg. He served as
pastor at Meyersville and
Vanderbilt, serving also as a
member of the public school
board.
Father Michael was assigned
pastor of St. Joseph's in Yoakum
onFeb. 7, 1969, which observed
its centennial the same year.
