Lion Jim Stone Earns Award
The Yoakum City Commis-
sion has hired a new fire
chief, according to City
Manager Jimmy Dodson.
Phillip R. Baker, former
Yoakum resident and son of
Hoffhines, 51; his wife
Barbara. 51; their daughter
Emily Hoffhines. 14; and
Mrs. Hoffines’ daughter by a
previous marriage Paula
Cyrus, 20. all of Kaufman,
near Dallas.

Ridout was taken into

Washington was pronoun-
ced dead at the scene by
DeWitt County Justice of the
Peace Robert Wood of Cuero.
Later Friday night Ridout was
charged with murder before
Wood, who set bond at
$50,000. Ridout was still
being retained at the Yoakum
City Jail Monday morning,
but was due to be transferred
to the DeWitt County Jail in
Cuero later in the day.
Washington’s body was
found on the floor between a
wall and the foot of the bed, In
a pool of blood on a floor
littered with numerous stereo
tapes and other items.
Wood ordered an autopsy
performed on Washington
and Yoakum Police Departm-

Washington. Charged with
murder in the stabbing death
of his step-son is 40-year-old-
James Ridout.
Reports indicated that a
disturbance between the two
erupted in the parking lot of
the Coxy Corner lounge at the
corner of Irvine and West
Hochheim streets.
A short time later, around
8:30 p.m., Yoakum police
officers were summoned to
the Ridout residence at 112
East Hochheim, about three
blocks away from the Coxy
Corner, and found Washingt-

The Superior OU Co. of The Woodlands has revealed plans to
drill a 14,000 foot developmental well to the Word Field. The
well will be locnted to a 652-acre unit, with drillsite in Lavaca
County’s James Kerr Survey and has designated the venture
as the No.2 D.A. Palrang Gas Unit. Drilsite is 1.75 miles
south-southeast of Worthing.

blood-stained knife inside a
living room couch that is
thought to possibly be the
murder weapon.
Besides the fatal stab
