Tandy Brands Inc. of Fort
Worth, parent company of
Tex Tan Welhausen and Tex
Tan Western Leather Co.,
has reported a loss for the
three months ending Dec. 31,
1982. The toss amounted to
$647,000 or 30 cents per share
on 2,189,000 shares, compar-
ed to prior year earnings of
$997,000 or 45 cents per share
on 2,227,000 shares.
Net sales for the three-mo-
nth period were $22,868,000
compared to $25,166 the prior
year.
The toss for the six months
ending Dec. 31, 1982 was
$856,000 or 39 cents per share
compared to earnings of
$1,485,000 or 67 cents per
share for the six months
ending Dec. 31, 1981.
Carson R. Thompson,
president of Tandy and
former president of Tex Tan
Welhausen, stated that these
unsatisfactory results were
primsrily caused by the
continuing deterioration of
the western wear industry.
During the second quarter
of fiscal 1983 the company’s
western products divisions
experienced inventory mark-
downs and writedowns
amounting to $2,636,000.
The financial condition of
the company remains strong
though, according to Thomp-
son. The ratio of current
assets to current liabilities at
Dec. 31, 1982 was 2.5
compared to 2.42 at June 30,
1982 and Dec. 31, 1981.
Inventories were reduced
by $5,300,000 compared to
the prior year. Further
