Here's a riddle. What can
cover 10,863 miles in 124 trips
in a year’s time? The answer is
not an elementary school solu-
tion which deals with funny
worms, but something of a
great deal more importance,
especially to those for which
the many miles arc made.
Some 28 volunteers from the
Yoakum unit of the American
Cancer Society's Road to Re-
covery Program put in over
371 hours in 1993 transport-

Time Marches Forward
Our Saturday night sleep time will be an hour shorter, when 2
a.m. Sunday becomes 3 a m.
Daylight Savings Time makes its annual comeback this week-
end and will remain on the scene until the final weekend in Oc-
tober.
To make certain of being on schedule for your Sunday
morning activities, the best remedy is to turn your clocks and
watches forward one hour upon retiring Saturday night.

industrial LEADER
.started with the program in
October of 1990. Lawhon now
not only continues to volunteer
time as a driver, but is respon-
sible for coordinating trips for
patients and scheduling the
volunteer drivers' .assignments.
Lawhon says the program is
especially important because
most cancer patients, after di-
agnosis, must receive treatment
5 days a week for 7-8 weeks -
"no excuses." She says that
treatments leave a patient very
tired, so it is impossible for one
to drive himself. And, many
times, family members of |hc
patient are unable to take off
work every day during this
treatment period to provide
transportation.
Many of the volunteers in
the Road to Recovery Program
arc former cancer patients
themselves. Lawhon says many
of these former patients were
once individuals the program
helped, and they feel a need to
continue to help with the ef-
fort. Lawhon said that many of
these former patients who are
now volunteering have- ex-
pressed that they have to drive.
