speedster at game's end.
Too bad the clock didn't do
its funny stuff in the last
minute.
The Yoakum defense, shred-
ded for 231 yards in the 1st
half, gave up only 59 yards in
the 2nd half.
QB Michael Warren, using 6
different receivers, hit 10
passes for 251 yards. 8 of the
completions for 203 yards
coming in the 2nd half.
But. there was East Bernard's
"Mr. Everything" QB, Shane
Lechler.
Easily one of the best high
school kickers in Texas, Lech-
ler averaged 43 yards on 8
punts, stalled Yoakum's kick
return game by repeatedly
booting kickoffs into (or.out
of) the endzone and bagged
field goals of 45 and 32 yards.
He also completed 4 passes for
95 yards and kept the ball 12
times for 69 yards and 2 TD's.
A 56-yard run for an apparent
TD in the 2nd period was
wiped out by a penalty.
Both teams were in top of-
fensive gear at the start. A 27-
yard return of the opening
. kick set the Brahmas up on
their 38. EB scored in 6 plays
and 2 penalties against the
Dogs. A 44-yard pass and ran .
• production from Lechler to
Chris Polak was the big gainer. ,
The payoff, on 3rd down, had
5-7 speedster Roddy Blunston
spinning his way from the 8.
Lechler’s EPK made it 7-0 at
the aforementioned 9.19 point.
Blunston played havoc with
the Yoakum defense in the 1st
half, rushing 14 times for 100
yards. In the 2nd half he
rushed 13 times for a profit of
22 yards.
After EB's opening score, the
Bulldogs started from their 20
and went the 80 yards in 5
plays. A gamble had kept the
drive alive.
Gamble Pays Off

It was the 1st time Lechler had
been intercepted this year.
From their 2 after the pass
theft and a penalty, the Dogs
moved out to 1st down on their
40 in 7 plays- then self-de-

Laray Williams fumbled; EB
covering at the 46.
On EB's 1st try, Lechler went
right, cut left across the field
and just kept powering for the
46 yards. His EPK made it 14-
7 at 11.09 of the 2nd period,
as the Brahmas were starting a
spree of 24 unanswered points.
The next Brahma tally also
resulted from a gift, from both
the Yoakum offense and de-
fense. The Dogs had stopped
the Brahmas on downs at the
Y-39, but on Yoakum's 1st
play the Dogs lost a fumble at
the 38. On East Bernard's 3rd
play, Blunston sped around Ns
