We had some heavy logs to drag so wa decided we needed 1
4-up‘s to handle the job. We caught Old Joe end Red, then went
back to the corral and caught Old Iren Jawed Mike and Queen.
We harnessed the four mules, slipped the chock-lines through
their hits, tied them to Old Joe's homes and headed far the
woods. We hooked Old Joe end Red up short, because they were
chain broke. We put Old Iron Jaw and Queen out in front, hung
the check lines on Old Joe and Red's hemes, checked the leg
chains to see that they were O.K. then started on our way. The
mules were working together and things were going swell, until
we came to a small hog wallow. Old Iron Jaw and Queen did not
went to cross, so they stopped for a second and then jumped
sideways to miss the hog wallow. The loose chain tightened end
caught Old Jee just above the shanks, and down he went. We
started sewing an the lines trying to get Old Iron Jew and
Queen stopped before they dragged the log over Old Jee. We
got them stopped, backed them up so we could get some sleek
in the chain, unhooked Old Joe from Red, let Old Red out of the
way, took Old Joe's trace chains loose from the singletree end
he got up. We looked him over to see if he woe hurt but he
seemed to be O.K. except he sure wes a mess. So we regrouped
our outfit, and went beck to work.
Now we heve regrouped, repossessed, rearranged, reorganised,
rebuilt, recreated, repudiated end revamped these used cars end
trucks, but have net been eble to reduce the stock at all. Yet
the Benker with all his understanding does not seem to see
our side of the picture et all. We sometimes wonder if money
is as precious as the bank seems to think it is. We wouldn't
know.

Game At A Glance
Tommy Runnells, another half-
back, kept the Buffaloes on their
heels with punt returns.
The Eagles’ usually effective
aerial game stalled-out with 69
yards net on 6 out of 16 comple-
tions but Hughes and Baker, who
did most of the man-under work,
easily switched to a good ground
game.
In fact, Renfro’s 40-yard scam-
per came on the heels of three in-
completions on the statue of liber-
ty with Hughes working the pivot.
This play capped a 53-yard drive
that saw Hughes hitting Hall once
for 9 yards and Gene Bahnsen get-
ting four before Renfro cut loose.
Baker’s score followed a 67-yard
drive that featured DeLong as he
picked up 49 yards in four carries.
The Buffs got a big boost in
their scoring punch when pass in
terference was ruled on the NT 8
on a fourth down try from the 21.
Tne half ended 20-6, NTSC.
Fourteen high school bands plus
units from NTSC and West Texas
provided an impressive 20-minute
intermission program.
The Eagles waited until 20 sec-
onds were left in the third period
to claim their fourth score. This
one belonged to Renfro and cleared
from the six-yard line after Dean
had pitched in a 51-yard scamper
and Hughes hit Hardy for a 22
yard pass gainer,
DeLong’s score capped a 28-yard
drive that was set-up by Runnell’s

bling up West Texas State,
38 to 6 in Eagle Stadium.
Playing before 13,500 gaily-
draped fans, the Eagles struck for
• touchdowns in each quarter and
' ground out 544 yards rushing while
holding the visiting Buffsloes to a
minus six yards on the ground.
Renfro, who personally contribut-
ed vn yards rushing in nine car-
ries, scored three times on 66, 40
and S-yard bursts.
The victory gave Mitchell eight
straight Homecoming wins since
coming to NTSC in 1946.
Kenneth (Cotton) Hall, tough-
hitting senior end, grabbed a 19-
yard aerial from Bobby Hughes
and fought his way two more yards
for the Eagles' initial touchdown
__coaling at .the end of a 61-yard, 9-
play opening drive.
Don Baker counted another NT
tally on a two-yard sneak and
Robert DeLong grabbed a sixth
' seore. ■ -
Bahnsen converted for the two
points after touchdown strikes.
West Texas pumped over its
lone tally with 17 seconds left in
the half. Kenneth Clapp, quarter-
back, picked up a fumble by full-
- back Robert Whelchel on the NT 4
and cleared for the score. The tally
came at the end of a 42 yard drive
set up by an Eagle fumble.
Clapps' try for point was blocked
by and Winton Criswell.
West Texas, who ground out 400
yards-plus last week rushing
against Midwestern, was solidly
beaten by the NTSC defense as evi-
denced by the minus 6 net yards
gained.
Big Bob McClendon, Norm Inge-
britsen, Ben Moore, Fred Way,
Charlie Laine, George Hoagland,
Jim Puryear, and Bob Hardy were
some of the Eagles up front that
threw up the rock-ribbed defense.
Particularly was McClendon ef-
fective. The veteran Ennis hefty
stacked ’em up time after time.
De Cleveland, and Bobby Cov-
ington, end and tackle respectively,
were the biggest thorns in the
Eagles' side. But quarterbacks
Hughes, Baker and Jack Hays sim-
ply sent backs Renfro, Ralph Rey-
nolds and DeLong wide and away
from Covington for easy-flowing
gains.
DeLong, who had quite an after-
noon himself in the second half,
netted 68 yards on nine carries and
scored one of the touchdowns.
