For Beautifying the Streets.
W. T. Carruthers of Amarillo has
been induced to come to Hereford to
figure with our people on putting in
cement sidewalks. Mr. Carruthers
has bought five lots and also a half
acre of ground in the residence por-
tion of town and will put cement side-
walks around his property. He has
a proposition of beautifying the
streets that he has submitted to our
people that will add wonderfully to
the looks of our town besides adding
25 or 30 per cent to the value of the
property. He proposes, at a very
low figure, to put down a cement
walk of any desired wi<Jth with a
curbstone of about six inches, leav-
ing a space of several feet as a park
for planting trees between the walk
and the curbstone. With our streets
fixed up in this manner we would
have one of the most beautiful towns
to be found anywhere. We trust
our citizens will consider Mr. Car-
ruthers proposition of beautifying
our streets.
The Breeze.
The April number of the Panhan-
dle Chistian College publication,
"The Breeze," was gotton out this
week. This edition is the best num-
ber of the year and has some very
interesting contributions that would
be a credit to a school of a much
larger size. In fact, it is better
than some other college publications
a great deal older that we are
familiar with. It is well arranged
and nicely gotton up and the edi-
torial staff and business manager are
to be congratulated on their work.
Such a publication is a great credit
to school by which it is gotten out
and serves to lift the institution up
on a higher plain. It is full of col-
lege spirit and enthusiasm.
Beautiful Mabry Addition lots,

We offer for a short time at $100

Peaches Killed.
The greater part of the peach
crop for this year is killed. On ac-
count of the early warm weather the
buds put out prematuely and the late
freezes which followed killed them.
Some of the late peaches, however,
are still alive and a small crop of
peaches may yet be gathred.

Rent Houses Needed.
A most puzzling proposition that
is now confronting the citizens of
Hereford is more rent houses. Rent
houses are needed and we must have
them. We have lost several fami-
lies of late who would like to have
made Hereford their home but were
únanle to get a house to live in. Now
this is getting serious, for nearly
every day you hear that complaint
from new arrivals from the north
and east. It is true that most of
our prospectors come here to buy
land and build a home, but there are
a great many laborers who come
here to work on the new buildings
we have under way and they must
have homes. We must also have
this class of people for never in the
history of our town has labor been
so scarce. A great many people
have had to live in tents on account
of not being able to secure a house.
Here is a good field of investment
open lor some monied man.
