Expert Shooting.
H. A. Morrelle, representing the
Peters Cartridge Company, was in
Hereford Monday and gave an ex-
hibition of expert riñe and shot-gun
shooting to an appreciative audience.
s With a 22 rifle Mr. Murrelle shot
objects thrown into the air, one or
more at a time, and varying in size
from potatoes down to candy mar-
bles. He stood on his head and
shot objects with apparent ease, cut
cards edge ways, etc.
He next shot a 30-30 rifle, and
with soft-pointed bullets made mist
of large potatoes, completely de-
molished cans of corn and tomatoes,
and pierced a piece of quarter-inch
boiler plate thrown into the air.
He also did some very interesting
work with a repeating shot-gun.
After the exhibition work, a trap
wes set up and some target shooting
done. In this Messrs. Chris. Gar-
rison, Allen Bell and Emmett Rice
participated. Here, as in the rifle
work, Mr. Murrelle demonstrated
the quality of his Company's pro-
ducts, breaking 50 targets without a
single miss.
The spectators, as well as those
who joined in the shooting, were
very much pleased, and steps are
now being taken to organize a gun
rlnh herp.
Salvation Army In Hereford.
On Wednesday and Thursday of
this week Captain and Mrs. George,
representing the Salvation Army,
were on the streets of Hereford
preaching and presenting to our peo-
ple the great work yf their organiza-
tion. Their chief work was in inter-
est of a home for orphan children,
for which they received a very lib-
eral contribution. Further work as
was outlined by them was to visit
the sick and poor, and to And em-
ployment for the unemployed, find
homes for the homeless, and rescue
girls from a life of sin and shame to
a life of joy and peace ; to help those
who are in trouble; to feed the hun-
gry ; to preach the gospel to the rich
and poor, the high and low, and in
fact, to do anything to help their
fellow man.
They conducted services at the
Methodist church Wednesday night
and were greeted by a crowded
house. The Salvation Army is do-
ing a great work since they reach a
great many people that cannot* be
reached in any other way. In large
cities they have a systematised out-
line of work in which they look after
the homeless children, feed hungry
people in the slums and build and
maintain rescue homes and industrial
homes.
