Auto Cowboy Takes Tumble
WINSLOW, Ariz. (UP) — Pa-
trolman Clarence Houch has been
able to demonstrate that a poli»
car is not adapted to the cowboys
use of lassoing horses. Called upon
to round up some horses, Houch
lassoed one from a-straddle the
hood of the police car. The horse
stopped suddenly, so did the car,
but Houck didn’t. He sailed
through the air and received a
broken wrist.

Reports from 105 home demon-
stration club members, collected
in June, show the following pro-
gress in the home food supply
demonstration.
Seventy-eight club members re-
ported following methods of sug-
gestions given in the pastry-mak-
ing demonstration. A fruit and
tomato canning budget was made
by 76 persons.
Forty-nine members have re-
ported larger gardens than in 1938,
1 and 55 are growing more vege-
tables in the field than in 1938.
Seventy-one members have ad-
ded livestock for home use; 89
members reported having improved
their family diet as a result of
their study of the Texas food
standard.
Non-club members, totaling 81,
have been helped by 43 members.
Five clubs have held their meet-
ings in an unorganized commun-
ity. A tomato juice canning dem-
ornstration was given at each
meeting.
Three dairy products meetings,
with an attendance of 67 persons,
were given earlier in the year. The
total attendance a the six land-
use-planning meeting in three non-
club communities was 158 per-
sons, making a final total of 14
meetings of non-club members
with a complete attendance of
284 persons.
