Greetings:
Ever since the Dutch settled on
Manhattan island and the region ad-
joining New York city and built their
homes like those they left in Holland,
the Dutch style of architecture has
been popular. This was especially so
in New Jersey and Pennsylvania for
several centuries, but during the last
25 years or more architects all over
the United States have employed this
type of architecture with some vari-
ations.
Shown in the accompanied illustra-
tion is a fine example of a Dutch type
of home. The long sweep of roof with
the wide dormers set in each side
make this home attractive when, as
28.
83
The Dutch architectural influence is shown on this very attractive shin-
gled house. The slope of the roof with the wide dormer projection, the
shuttered windows and the entrance door all are reminders of the early
Dutch homes. The house is 24 feet wide and 24 feet deep and contains six.
well-arranged rooms aside from the bathroom and breakfast nook.
