When the “break up" boys take
a look at today’s major league
standings they may want to con-
sider switching leagues.
Instead of crying “Break up the
Yankees'’ as they have for years,
they might find it more appropri-
ate to start chanting “Break up
the Dodgers."
Today, for the first time since
May 17, the American League has
a closer pennant race than does
the National League.

The New York Yankees own only
a 4M-game bulge over Chicago.
The Dodgers took a big stride
forward last night by outelassing
Chicago in a double-header 9-3 and

The Yankees frittered away a full
game of their lead by losing
to Cleveland 6-4 for the second
straight night after the White Sox
shaded Boston 1-0.

the top of the Texas League
Wednesday night when they stag-

with two out, and routed Shreve-
port 4-1. ‘
Dallas moves ahead of second-

with the victory, the opener of a
three - game series.
The two other first division clubs
each picked up half a game on the
night. Third - place Fort Worth
gained by topping Beaumont 5-2.
Tulsa shaded San Antonio 5-4 in the
ninth inning.
The Oklahoma City Indians de-
feated Houston 7-6 and replaced
the Buffs in fifth place.
Lefthander Joe Piercey retired
the first 12 Dallas batters to face
him. He went into the bottom of
the fifth inning with a 1-0 lead,
