A SMART piece of furniture for newlyweds or others who have
books but neither a coffee table nor a full purse, can be put to-
gether without nails or other fasteners in just about one minute
flat.
Go to a lumber yard for some hollow clay tiles, about 4 inches
wide and a toot square—or glass blocks of the same size. These
will serve as solid supports.
Your lumber dealer also can supply you with a new hardboard
finished plywood of the pressed ply type and cut it to any length
required. Seamless slabs of this type, rigid and splinter proof, can
serve as both tiers of an attractive table providing a lower shelf
for books and magazine;.
Both the block supports and boards can be left unfinished for
modern effect, or they can be painted to suit.

By THE ASSOCIATED PESs
It will cost you more to feed
your family this week.
That’ll be true if you buy any of
the favorite meats, beef, pork or
lamb. You’ll probably find egg
prices up in your store, too. Vege-
tables may be a little more ex-
pensive.
Meat prices this week reflect the
sharp rise recently in the livestock
markets, particularly in cattle.
Pork and lamb prices have been
strong all along, and now they’re
climbing again.
A representative picture of this
week’s beef prices as presented by
one of the largest food chains: Sir-
loin steak is up four cents a pound
in Jacksonville, Fla., ahead 10
cents a pound in New York, Phila-
delphia and Washington, 12 cents
in Pittsburgh and 14 cents in Chi-
cago.
Rib roast is up three cents in
Los Angeles, four cents in Jackson-
