MP All Stars would fall
by a score of 7-2. The
All Stars fell behind ear-
ly and even with Brandon
Matkin and Trenton Tosh
each driving in a run, it
was not enough. This is
where the journey would
end for the All Stars.
They showed great re-
silience and fought until
the very end, but were
just outmatched. Keller
Thompson pitched four
innings and recorded six
strike outs. Unfortunately
the bats just didn’t come
alive to keep pace with
Longview.

of 10-5. This game would
prove to help propel
the team into their next
match versus Palestine.
The ball game ver-
sus Palestine didn’t take
place until the next morn-
ing, but that didn’t stop
the MP All Stars from
carrying over momen-
tum. After the first inning,
the All Stars found them-
selves leading Palestine
4-1. Trenton Tosh led the
All Stars to victory with
two runs batted in.
Rounding out the
stat sheet was Bran-
don Matkin with three
runs scored, and Keller
Thompson added a cou-
ple for himself. In just
one and two thirds in-
nings pitched, Tosh was
able to strike out four and
get the win.
With a record of 2-0,
the MP All Stars were
on a roll and continued
deeper into the winners
bracket.
It was later that after-
noon in which the All
Stars would run into some
stiff competition as they
faced Longview Sunday
afternoon. This game
did not go according to
plan as the MP All Stars
gave up 12 hits and 18
runs in defeat. One bright
spot for the All Stars was
Brandon Matkin going 2
for 2 including a solo shot
home run.

phy. Kenny Thompson,
the head coach of the All
Stars, had this to say af-
ter the game: “I am su-
per proud of these young
men. They played great
throughout the whole
tournament. They never
give up and will fight un-
til the last pitch is thrown.
I love coaching them. We
are a young team and will
only get better in the fu-
ture.”
Thompson said that
the Mount Pleasant Tiger
baseball team has a bright
future with these kids
heading into high school
in a couple of years.

ballplayers, to show they
could handle defeat and
come back better than
before. This win did not
go unrewarded as they
earned a trip to the semi-
finals.
The MP All Stars cel-
ebrated their victory over
a formidable Palestine
team for a short while, as
soon they would come to
find out they would earn a
rematch with Longview,
who had beaten them
18-2 the day before. The
semifinal game was not
set to take place until the
following afternoon.

traveled to Longview
to take part in the Texas
Series State Tournament
last weekend. The team,
overall, went 3-2. They
had an exciting week-
end filled with ups and
downs. On Saturday the
team took on Canton in
the opening round of the
tournament.
In that game, Canton
controlled the game ear-
ly entering the fourth in-
ning with a one run lead.
The fourth inning would
prove to be a swing of
momentum in the game
as the Mount Pleasant All
Stars plated six runners
and never looked back.
Connor Gillean and Bra-
den Duff lead the team
with timely hitting. Also
filling up the stat sheet,
Peterson and Minter had
a multi-run game.
On the mound for the
Mount Pleasant All Stars
was a combination of
Jacob Bristow, Keller
Thompson, and Trenton
Tosh, each pitching a re-
spective two innings. The
final score didn’t reflect
how close the game was
up until that 4th inning,
when the All Stars would
take the “W” with a score

defeat but the All Stars
were not out of conten-
tion just yet. They found
themselves one loss away
from elimination and fac-
ing a familiar foe.
The MP All Stars were
one win away from ad-
vancing to the semifinals
after they dropped down
into the one loss bracket
and were awarded a sec-
ond date with the team
they had previously beat-
en, Palestine.
The MP All Stars
showed grit and deter-
mination. After falling to
Longview by such a large
margin, the All Stars
could have easily have let
that affect them in the fol-
lowing game — but they
did not. They responded
to defeat with gallant ef-
fort and came away with
their largest victory of the
tournament, 12-2.
The All Stars came
out bats blazing as Keller
Thompson connected
with a triple in the first
inning to put them on
the board. They would
continue their offensive
onslaught as they would
score six runs in the third
inning, capped off by
Braden Duff’s triple.
Tyson Minter would
lead the team with three
runs batted in. Tosh was
fire on the mound deal-
ing three strike outs on
the night. It was a great
response by the young
