The critical issue with
Dorsett has been the number
of carries. Despite a coaching

Since Dorsett was drafted
in 1977. Ward has made a fast
sales pitch, showing him
computerized printouts and
endless charts. Ward, who
has a doctorate in physical
education, is a computer
within himself. He spews fac-
tors and equations as if he
were dealing with physicists,
not players.
The recruitment of Dorsett
as a weightroom regular has
four years. At times, Dorsett
has made it look easy.
This, however, is supposed
to be the new Dorsett, one
who has been changed by his
marriage to Julie Simon
April 7. After meeting at
training camp last summer,
the couple decided to get
married in Hawaii on
Dorsett's birthday. She is
from Oxnard, Calif., about 15
miles from the Cowboys
training camp at Thousand
Oaks.
"Marriage has added a lot
of stability to my life."
Dorsett said. "Life is a little
more settled. I'm going to be
a little more serious about my
job. about my life."
Dorsett now spends more
time at the practice field than
at Dallas discos. Instead of
trips to Hollywood for ses-
sions with his acting coach,
he drives about 12 miles from
his country home in Wylie to
pump weights.
"He's finally giving the
program a fair shake." Ward
said. "Tony had his own ideas

to the regionals three times in the 400 meters,
sprint relay and mile relay. He also has one

Some players were working

There was a special con-
