"Gaining the patient's con-
fidence is the first step and
treating that individual as I
would want to be treated
follows." explains Dr. Dan
Desilets.
Beginning his dental prac-
tice with Dr Bill MeClarty
last August. Dr Desilets em-
phasizes the importance of
making the patient feel at
ease before starting any den-
tal procedure
"I believe in sitting down
and visiting with the patient,
spending quality tune with
them, and letting them know
that they can trust me," says
the amicable doctor "If
there is a particularly dif-
ficult problem present. I will
refer them to a specialist "
I feel that it is very unpor-
tant to begin dental care as
soon as possible When a child
reaches three or four years of
age they should come in for a
check-up Usually there are
no problems and this visit
senes two purposes, to get
the child acquainted with the
doctor and to feel comfor-
table with the surroundings
I want the first dental ex-
perience to be a pleasant
one, states Dr Desilets
in selecting Hereford as his
home the doctor, who moved
here from Amarillo, said
there were a variety of ad-
vantages to living and prac-
ticing in a smaller communi-
ty
! m not after making mega
bucks in this profession if I
had chosen a larger city to
practice in. my work load
would be increased but I
wouldn t be able to spend as
much time as I would like
with each of my patients
Also, the pace of living is

While I was a dental stu-
dent. my parents lived for
over two years in Kuwait, a
small country situated bet-
ween Iraq and Saudi Arabia
on the Persian Gulf. I visited
them several tunes They
now reside in Odessa
Dr Desilets graduated in
1973 from a Houston high
school and from Stephen F
Austin State University in
Nacogdoches in December of
1977
He then attended dental
school at the University of
Texas at San Antonio where
he received his degree While
a dental student he drove a
route sales truck for Coca
Cola
When asked why he chose
the dental profession. Dr
Desilets responded, I love
working with my hands and
being around people The
thought of working in an of.
flee where I would only be ex-
posed to the same people day
after day. was not very ap-
pealing This way I can
become acquainted with a
variety of people from many
different walks of life
