DEAR LO: You probably
feel like blowing your stack-
but don't. Sit down with your
husband and tell him in a lov-
ing way that you understand
how rotten he must feel, not
being able to help support the
household But ask him to put
himself in your place. Tell
him if he doesn’t keep his end
of the bargain you’ll collapse
You will do better with this
approach than if you blow
your stack

My mother has been mak-
ing my life unbearable for as
lung as I can remember She
flies into a rage at the
slightest provocation. For ex-
ample. if she finds just one
marble on the floor she hits
the ceiling She insists on
"cleaning" my room because
she can't stand a mess, and
this burns me because she
puts my things where I can't
find them and throws out
stuff 1 want to keep. I don't
remember the last time she
hugged me or paid me a com-
pliment
My Dad is aware of the
situation but does nothing to
improve it. Lately the sub-
jects of Mom's rage have
been my sinking grades I
can't possibly do better in
school when she is hollering
at me all the time. It makes
me nervous. Lately she's
been saying. "If you don’t
like it here, you can move
out. " I would gladly move if I

DEAR DESPERATE: I’ve
been writing this column long
enough to know the author of
this letter is no 12-year-old
boy. Mv advice is family
counseling. Regardless of
who wrote it, there is real
trouble in your family and the
best way to remedy it is to
consult with a trained profes-
sional who will listen to
everyone and get a real
dialogue going.
