The Hereford High School
volleyball teams each have two mat-
ches left in the 1985 season to try to
prevent winless seasons.
Tonight, the HHS spikers play at
Lubbock High School, starting at 7
p.m. with the junior varsity match.
The season finales are scheduled
Saturday with Hereford hosting Lub-
bock Monterey at the HHS gym. The
junior varsity match starts at 2 p.m.,
and the varsity match begins 20
minutes after the junior varsity
match is over.
Last Saturday, the Hereford High
volleyball teams struggled against
Amarillo High in matches played in
Hereford.
In the varsity match, Hereford fell
to the second place team in District
3-5A, 15-0, 15-2.
Amarillo defeated Hereford in the
junior varsity match, 15-4, 15-6.

Three Hereford runners placed in
the top ten as the HHS varsity girls'
cross country team placed second in
the District 3-5A meet to qualify the
team for regionals.
The district meet was held Satur-
day at Thompson Park in Amarillo.
In the varsity boys' meet, Hereford
placed seventh.
The top 10 finishers for Hereford in
the varsity girls' district meet were
Nancy Garza, Selma Moreno and
Frances Flores.
Garza placed second in a time of
12:20, Moreno was fifth in 12:28, and

Lubbock High 163; Plainview 166;
and Caprock 225.
In the varsity boys’ meet,
Hereford’s top runners were Arturo
Martinez and Craig Waddell. Mar-
tinez placed 17th in a time of 17:39
and Waddell was 18th in 17:50.
Ishmael Castillo finished in 35th
place with a time of 19:21. Lupe Pena
had a clocking of 19:56 for 37th place,
and Darrel Blevins placed 40th in
21:01.
The team placings and scores for
the boys’ race were: Lubbock
Monterey, first place, 48; Lubbock
Coronado, second, 77; Amarillo
High, third. 85: Caprock, fourth, 97;
Plainview, fifth, 105; Tascosa, sixth.
