Dear Sharon: What is a classic short cut to try?
A chin-to-collar length turned under pageboy cut always seems to
be in style. Full or slightly fringed bangs make a nice accent.
This style dries well, needs only three or four rollers around the
nape of the neck and over each ear to produce a turn under. Using
a curling iron on the edges may produce the same effect.
Dear Sharon: My hair is very long and frizzy. What is a quick
way to pull out some of the curl?
One way to get rid of the frizzies is to pull all of your hair on top
of your head in a wrapped around knot. You may also twist your
hair as you wrap it.
Leave it this way for an hour or longer. When you take it down,
the frizzies should be gone, leaving a wavy soft curly look.
Dear Sharon: What is a good way to rid myself of split ends?
Cutting the ends will help. Also, there is a European way of wrap-
ping strands very tightly and using a special candle to singe the
ends. A shop that specializes in this service should be able to help
you.
Take care not to use a blow-dryer that is too hot, or pull when
combing.

Stew chicken until tender. Cool and remove from bone. Cook
spaghetti according to directions. Drain.

mushrooms, garlic and spices in saucepan. Add a pat of butter and
enough broth to keep from sticking. Simmer until done. Remove
garlic cloves.
Put chicken, cooked spaghetti, and drained English Peas in large
pan. Add small amount of broth and cook ten minutes. Add cooked
seasoning mix, and cheese. Place in large casserole and bake in
325° oven until bubbly and cheese is melted.

Place V2 cup sugar in small iron skillet over low heat.
Mix in heavy saucepan two cups sugar, milk, butter and egg. Stir
over low heat until butter melts. Increase heat and cook until it
boils rapidly.
Meanwhile, the sugar in the skillet has begun to melt. When it is
golden brown, pour into boiling mixture stirring fast and constant-
ly. Cook to soft ball stage. Remove from heat and add vanilla.
Beat until the right spreading consistency. Spread on cake. Chop-
ped pecans may be added to top of layers.

Lucille Cothes with banana nut cake,
pecan tasties and salad.
Valentine’s Day is a special time to remember someone dear.
Take a little time to let someone know just how special they are and
you will feel a little more special, too.

When perming hair at home, be sure to pull paper down past the
ends of the hair. This will prevent the ends of your hair from burn-
ing. Cut your hair after you perm to remove all dead ends and give
your perm shaping. Cutting your hair just one-half inch or less will
not take perm off.

preparing ingredients for her hearty recipes.
Like many good cooks, Lucille learned how to cook from her
mother and has picked up some good recipes from friends and other
relatives. N
Lucille and her husband Grady lived on a farm just southwest of
town where Grady was born and reared. Eight years ago, they mov-
ed into Allen.
Their son Randy and his wife Kathy live in Sulpher Springs, with
their daughter Amanda. When Lucille isn’t cooking for her family
on visits, she can be found in the kitchen preparing her delicious
recipes for organizations or for friendly get-togethers.
The Cothes are members of the First Christian Church and
belong to a 42 club that meets monthly. At the meetings, which she
calls “eating meetings,” Lucille will not hesitate to serve any of her
tempting dishes.
When the Cothes have guests, she will prepare foods that can be
done ahead of time “to avoid the last minute hassel in the kitchen.”
The chicken and spaghetti recipe was given to Lucille by a friend
of hers.
“Not only does it make enough to feed a crowd, but it freezes
beautifully,” she noted.
During family get-togethers, the raw vegetable salad is one of the
most requested items. Even Lucille’s two-year-old granddaughter
Amanda enjoys the nutritious vegetable salad topped with a zesty
dressing. The dressing is the secret to the salad, admits Lucille.
Lucille said that the pecan tasties are not something that would
be made every day but are “especially nice for an occassion when
you would like something pretty as well as tasty.” The cream
cheese is the ingredient that gives the crust a rich taste.
When not cooking, sewing, or doing part-time real estate work,
Lucille and her husband spend their weekends on their farm in
Bonham.
