Mayor Lee Preston today express-
ed his personal thanks and the ap-
preciation of both the - police and
sherifT’s department for the orderly
manner in which Denton residents
celebrated the official announce-
ment of the surrender of Japan.
After reading accounts of what
happened in other communities,”
Preston said, “I think all Denton
deserves a pat on the back for the
way the victory was celebrated
here."
Since the announcement came at
6 p m Tuesday, neither the police
department or the sherif’s office
has received a single report on dis-
turbances, violence or destruction
to property
“This is a record that Denton can
well be proud of,” Preston asserted,
“and I am sure that all public of-
ficials are proud of them 1
