Permits Issued
During July
Twenty-six building permits were
isued in the city of Denton during
the month of July for a total esti-
mated construction value of $153,-
100.
High for the year w s June which
rounded ai with $225,100 estimat-
ed value in 35 permits.
During the first seven months
of the year, permits have been
issued by Fire Marshal Gene Cook
for almost 125 new residences in
the city.
Largest single permit for July
was a permit for $20,000 worth of
construction that will be added to
the Yarborough Furniture Com-
pany on South Elm.

This year the Lion carnival to
be held at Elm and Highway 24,
will include penny stands, gun
stands, a glass stand, hoop stand,
cigarette pitch, ett and drink
stand, bingo stand, and an African
dip.
The carnival steering committee
is composed this year of Tobe
Jones, Bob Walis, Joe Bowers,
j the carnival is opened, they work
in their stands. Six rides, however,
are purchased from a commercial
carnival.
The balance of the proceeds
from the carnival is put in the
Lion’s general activity fund
which is used in Denton for worthy
causes. Sight conservation is one
of the large Lion prsjects in Den-
. ! yesterday and
is also sent to the Lion’s Crippled spokesman said

DALLAS, July 31 on — Gov.
Allan Shivers led Ralph Yar-
borough by 23,787 votes in the
Democratic primary, final un-
official returns showed today.
The complete report of the
Texas Election Bureau, an un-
official vote-counting agency
sponsored by Texas newspa-
pers and radio stations, showed
Shivers with 668,536 votes to
644,749 for Yarborough.
Arion B. (Cyclone) Dsvis,
bewhiskered fender repairman
who lives under a Dallas
bridge, got 16,182 votes. J. J.
Holmes, Austin house builder,
received 20,138.
The total of 36,320 votes cast
for the two minor candidates
kept either Shivers or Yar-
borough from getting a ma-
jority. Their fight for the gov-
ernorship will be settled in a
runoff primary Aug. 28.
