An election has been called for
nextTuesdy to issue bonds for
the purpose of extending the
water works of the city of Gil-
mer, and it has been shown that
this could be done without any!
increase in the tax rate.
The city fathers have figured
it all out, and it is herewith
presented by the city secretary,
Mr. L. G. Martin, whose ability
as a financier is not questioned.
He says:
“Why the Town of Gilmer can |
float a $50,000 bond issue and
not increase the rate of taxes, or
raise the present rendition of
$1,288,450.00.
“On Feb. 4th 1924, there was
‘ $15,000 Street Bonds outstand-
ing due in 1951 or tn 27 years
with a sinking fund on hand of

reduced to less than $500.00 the
present tax levies for these
funds are 60c on present valu-
ation, and should the City Coun-
cil lower this levy 12c or $1,140
per year, they would still have
as much or more to spend for
General and Street purposes as
heretofore.
Therefore should the present
levies be reduced or made to fill
actual requlrements, the new
rates to carry an additional
$50,000.00 bond issue would be
as follows: 4c for-Sewer Bonds,
6c for Street Bonds, 10c for
Street purposes, 10c for Fund-
ing Warrants outstanding, 38c
for General purposes and 32c
for new bond issues, making a
total of $1.00 on the One Hun-
dred Dollar valuation, the above
rates would take place of the
present rates which are 10c for
.Water Bonds, 10c for Sewer
Bonds, 10c for Street Bonds, 10c
for Street purposes and 10c for
• Funding Warrants, and 50c for
General purposes, making a
total of $1 00.
We are informed from , the
different insurance agencies in
the town that there is approxi-
mately $1,856,000 in force in
the limits of the town, and if the
prosed extensions be made as
provided in these bond issues
