Embargo at Galveston Is Raised end
the Tracks Are Being Cleared.
Galvutom, Teses, July 17,—The
grfin situation has greatly improfed,
in fact the embargo has been removed
and at present all is smooth sailing.
Tbe three ship* ii> port and three
others due here in a few day* will re-
lieve the elevstors of something over
* million and • balf'busbels of wheat.
Already 85,000 bushels have left tbe
elevators into tbe hold of the Golden
Cross. The other two vessels will
coke tip and take their shares a* soOn
as they are ready for the cargo.
• Now that tbe embargo has been
lifted, tbe next move is to get the
grain started Gaivestonward again.
Tbe Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe
canceled its instructions to agents not
to ship any more gialn to Galveston
until snob time as tbe elevators could
take care of it five days ago. Tbe
notice to the «gente to resumí s
ping grain to Gal veeton, like the no-
tice to discontinue sbipping. was sent
out quietly to tbe company's agents.
It is expected that grain will eon '
menee coming into Galveston by tbe
irainload in a day or# two. The re
celpte for the past *yek bave been
small, and today there were less than
1,000 cars on the tracks.
Of coarse the minute the grain be
gan leaving the elevators for Ibe
ships, the elevators began receiving
grain from the cars on tbe wharf
tracks, and the result was that about
fifty-four cars were emptied today and
sent back up the country.' %

The awful fate of the foreigners in
Pekin, now no longer doubted, and
tbe frightful alternative which com-
pelled Admiral Seymour, to kill his
own wounded, as described in cable
dispatches from China, arouse deep
interest In the unspeakable oruelty of
the Mongol fanatic.
Nor are these tortures dealt out
solely by tbe Boxers end hy irre-
sponsible mobs. Father Tanned,
Roman Catbolio missionary in North-
ern China, has quite recently report-
ed how be had been oonrj>elled toeee
eleven of his Christians imprisoned
under false pretenses and tortnred la
the most horrible manner under tbe
direction of a mandarin. They were
scourged, suspended by the thumbs,
by tbe bair and by the ears.
A Franciscan missionary, describ-
ing the death of a cateohist in Nan*
Kuensie, writes:
"He was seised, stripped of his
c'othe*, beaten and bound. He was
then qneetioned i'
" <Are y?u a Christian 1'
"«Yes, lam;'
"At this reply one, ear was cut off,
" 'Are you still a Christian?'
" 'Yes; I am a follower of Christ.'
'The other ear was then severed.
Tbe viotlm's third declaration w*i
bis death sentence. A stroke of the
sword severed his head from his body,
and placed him in the ranks of the
martyrs."
In other cases the executioners tear
ont the victims' eye and out the mus-
cles of the feet. He lives only to suf
fer. In other eases men and women
are buried alive. To deprive them of
any poesible asststsnce their mouths,
eyes and ears are stopped with mud.
The Boxers are fiends of cruelty.
Tbey maltreat, in these different
ways, helpless women and girls and
old men. Their most exquisite
method of torture is known as the
"slicing process." .
TBsir owu njtnaeTor it is the "ting-
che."
Under this hideous .rite the bodies
of the fallen are cut into small pieces
with powerful blows from cleaver like
knives, which ere wielded with arme
guided by an incomprehensible and
insatiate thirst for blood. The pieces
are fed-lto the.dogs,,.
