J. E. Macon Wichita Falls
Predicts Increased Ac-
tivity in Short While.
Increased activity in the Burkbur-
nett oil fields in Wichita county
Texas is predicted by J. C Macon
representing Cunningham Investment
Co. of Wichita Falls who is in EI
Paso. 'The rains have made roads
so bad that operations have been
greatly hindered said Mr. Macon.
The next 39 days should see th.s all
cleared up and that section which has
been showing up with such great pro-
ducers will boom as never bf-fore I
am sure.
The Ramming well struck oil at
1778 feet on Thursday of last week
and came in with 1000 barrels and
It was expected that it would double
or treble its capacity. This prove3
the field seven miles west of the town
of Burkburnett. The M. and r. Burk
well is holding good at 2500 barrels
and the Texas Chief at 5000. Such
wells as these and others brought in
under such bad weather conditions
that the roads were almost impass-
able on account of mud. shows what
may be expected when rtry went her

EXTE1SWEST
Small Producer Now Has
Opportunity to Share
In Profits.
Eutland. Tex June II. Prom the
beginning oil developments In the
Ranger field have been to the west-
ward. Back is October 191" when
It was known that the oil found in
the discovery well was the same
grade as the Pennsylvania crude de-
velopment rapidly Increased in ail
directions. The discovery well was
the No. 1 McCIasky which the Texas
Pacific Coal and Oil company brought
in that year.
When in July. 191S the'No..l Slay-
den was brought in producing 5000
barrels dally by the Prairie OH and
Gas company it was definitely known
that the trend of developments would
be westward.
Quite a number of wells were added
to the western edge's list of good pro-
ducers during the first half of 1919.
Here have been discovered the larg-
est high grade paraffin petroleum
gushers ever discovered anywhere.
Among them were the Prsirie Oil and
Gas company's No. 1 Terrel. that came
In with a dally flow of 10.000 barrels;
Texas Pacific Coal and OH company's
Na 1 Norwood tho Prairie Oil and
with an initial
flow of S000 barrels per day. and thai
Magnolia on company-s ivo. 1 j.
Connellee. A large number of offsets
to these wells have come In recently
most of which are located west and
southwest of the early gushers.
Small Operators Barred.
With the exception of the Connel-
lee well the large gushers which first
proved this western movement of de-
velopment are located on a block of
leases taken by the Texas Pacific
Coal and OH company which still
holds the most part or the origins!
tract today. The small operators
were thus barred from this first large
producing area ir they wished to
seek oil they had to look elsewhere
for locations. The natural thing for
them to do was to go westward for
It was generally known at that time
that the oil operations were west-
ward. The great number of rigs at work
west of the Tork survey and north of
Eastland Is the direct result of this.
It accounts for the fact that the west-
ern line of production Is now more
than a mile northwest from the bis
Norwood well and a mile northwest
of the Roper. This production area
begins at the Leon Oil company's
well the Na 1 Allen. S000 feet east of
Bsientln's Pleasant Tlrove church
well and about five miles northeast
of Eastland and extends southward to
the Humble OH Company's Scott well
two miles and a half east of East-
land. Tho Humble OH company's
Scott well Is making 18 barrels an
hour and Improving each day as the
amount of gas decreases.
All To Have Chance.
This condition Insures the produc-
tion of the indepenaent producer for
lacking tho means of the larger pro-
ducers he is kept out of the big
leases but now that there has been
so large a territory proven there
seems no doubt but that the small
producer will have an opportunity to
come In for his share.
Oil men are generally of the opin-
ion that the western edge of produc-
tion has not yet been reached. They
point out that there are wells beyond
the edge that will without doubt
bring In olL There is the Root Hupp
and nuff Perkins welL an offset to
tho r.easant Grove church hole which 1
has now a showing for olL The Great
Southern Oil and Ilefintng company's
well on the Baumgartner tract three
miles north of Eastland is now dose
to the pay sand and will be a good
producer.
There are indications of good pro-
ducers in the Midwest Oil company's
well a small but consistent producer.
tl-i Morton and Mother's Pool wells
which produced large quantities of
gas at ISM feet from a sand that las
been carrying water In the northern
field. Some operators say tbe
Humble OH company's Scott well is
on tho eds;r of a new pool which will
be to the westward. Bat whatever
tbe case it ia evident that the west-
ern limits of the pool has not yet
been reached. There may even be a
new center of development near Eastland.
