Reports coming out of Russia con-
flict. According to a Russian news
service that is antl-Bolahevist the
old orthodox chprch Is dead. In its
place there has arisen a distinctly
Protestant movement wherein the
priest dresses like other people has
cut short his hair and put oa a collar
and has organised prayer meetings
which people attend In large numbers.
From other sources comes word that
the Russian Catholic church ot history

while Imprisoned at times. Is new free
but closely watehed because ot his
sympathy with America. It is stated
that properties generally are still
held by the church and have not been
interfered with by the soviet. This H
declared to be the case with the great
churches of Moscow and its kremltn.
The head of the Russian church has

PEOPLE GETTIXO
TIRED OF CinSC.
Reports from every panf of the
country indicate a marked slump la
gifts of money to almost all cansea.
Moat of the great missionary societies
are far behind and the five-year
pledges made one and two years ago4
are Dtmg only e per cent paid. .Hos-
pitals and general charities report It
the most difficult period in years to
get money.
The explanation of veteran money
raisers Is that there Is a distinct re-
action. Professional money raisers at
high salaries have overworked the
drive. Now drives are taboo every-
where. Educational plans are suffering la
like manner.
JEWS ARB MAKING
THEIR. PEOPLE RELIGIOUS.
Jews ot America are founding their
first missionary society. It arms to
make Jews religious. The plan for
which the modern plan ot money rais-
ing has been followed la to peneioa
rabbis to organize schools and espe-
cially to help small communities of
Jews In rural districts. The (UN-
ttO fund being raised la payable over
a period of 10 years.
The new missionary program has
behind It reform Judaism aa repre-
sented by the Hebrew Union college
at Cincinnati. The late Jacob H.
Sehlff left 1100909 toward a pension
fund for rabbis. Jews are saying thai
such plan of making Jews good Jews
religious Jews. Is better to combat al
leged proselytizing on the part of
Christians than the raising of cam-
paigns ot race hatred. Another part
ot the new missionary society plan
is the creation oi a synagogue build-
ing fund commission that' will loan
money to help erect missionary synagogues.
