BUSINESS IS
UPPERMOST IN
CONGRESS NOW
Washington D. C. Dec. 7. (By the
Associated Press.) Means of stimu-
lating commerce and industry ap.
neared to be uopermost in the minds
of congressional leasers today as the
third and final session of the Mth
congress got under way. Among
house leaders there was manifest a
sentiment that a program of stabili-
sation for commerce and Industry
should take precedence in committee
consideration.
In the grist of bills .in the first
two days there were a score of meas-
Mires having to do directly with busi
ness some proposed protection 01
an extreme nature for American In-
dustries others were designed to fos-
ter development of industries' already
established but momentarily having
hard aleddlng. while still others were
designed to establish machinery to
determine causes for the present
commercial depression. All were
aimed at the sum end restoration
of normal business conditions.
In connection with the business
legislation and overlapping It In some
instances were farmer relief meas-
ures. While most of these have as
their purpose the granting of Im-
mediate aid to agriculture in the
face of the present decline of prices
for farm commodities there wss a
tendency toward stabilisation. Some
leaders declared the aim of such leg
islation therefor was two fold and
that support would be found among
both farmer and urban representa
tives because the legislation was in
tended to help both sides.
Under the present indefinite pro-
errant oz maioriiv leaders it is
planned to go ahead with considera
tion 01 these measures gather data
