J THINGS TO THE BEAK FOX AND WOLF IN HIS Author of the Famous UNCLE wigoilt bedtime stories
THEN THE CHRISTMAS TREE! Pictured by LANG CAMPBELL
Dear me Uncle Wiggily ! You aren't going to dress up like Santa
Oaus are you; and play jokes on Baby Bunty and the other children ?"
asked Nurse Jane Fuzzy Wuzzy one morning; near Christmas as she
saw the bunny gentleman standing before the fireplace. Well I was
thinking bf making believe I was Santa Claus for a little while -spoke
Uncle Wiggily. "But instead of playing a trick on Baby Bunty I think
PI1 play one on the Fox Wolf and Bear." Baby Bunty jumped up and
down and clapped her paws. "Oh please may I come ?" she begged;
It did not take Uncle Wierily Ion? to dress up like Santa Qaus
and firt a big bag' with presents. Baby Bunty too dressed in her warm
fur coat was soon ready to go out in the snow. "Where are you going
Uncle Wiggily?" asked the little rabbit girL "First 1 will call on the
Fox" answered Mr. Longears. "I am going to make him a present of
a lovely pumpkin potpie Nurse Jane baked for'him. I think when I
give him that he will turn good and not bother me any more." Baby
Bunty hoped so. But see the Fox Wolf and Bear! What will they do ?
Uncle Wieeily. who was dressed up like Santa Claus did not see
the bad Fox Wolf and Bear nor did Baby Bunty. On went the bunnies
until they came to the den of the Fuzzy Fox. " I'll go in and leave him
the pumpkin potpie and the other presents" said Uncle Wiggily when
he found the Fox was not at home. Baby Bunty looked around the
den. She found an old ragged sock and pinned it to the mantel as
Uncle Wiggily put the presents on the table. "Maybe some one will
leave candy and nuts for the Fox" said Baby Bunty.
After Uncle Wiggily had left Christmas presents for the Fox the
bunny gentleman and Baby Bunty started out again. They met Curly
and Floppy TwistytaiL the piggte boys. "Oh Uncle Wiggily where
are you going" grunted Floppy. "To. the dens of the Wolf and Bear"
answered the bunny. "1 have honey cakes for the Bear and an apple
sauce pie for the Wolf." Curly and Floppy went along' too when
Bunty told about hanging up the sock of the Fox. "What is going
on?" asked the Wolf of the Bear the Fox having gone home.
"Here is the en of the Black Bear!" cried Uncle Wiaeily as he
and his friends reached the place. "He is not at home either so. I
can leave the Christmas presents I brought" And while the bunny
gentleman was doing this Babv Bunty found a broom and began to.
sweep. "Poor Black Bearf ' said the little rabbit girL "No wonder
he is cross living- in such a dirty den ! No one ever sweeps it for him."
Curly and Floppy squealed in delight "We found some of the Bear's
old mittens" they said. "We'll hang them up for his Christmas."
( Having left the present for the Bear and having made his den
look as nice as possible Uncle Wiggily and his friends went to the cave
of the Wolf. "Here we will leave the last of the presents" said Uncle
Wiggily. "After this Christmas perhaps these bad creatures will be
more kind to me." Babv Buntv and Curlv helped out the Wolfs
rte presents on the table and Floppy set the Wolfs rubber boots on the
I mantel. "Some one mav hrinr htm an rraniri " fhnnorhf ihi litf! ni.

outside the den of the Wolf the bad old Lynx or Bob Cat with tassels
on fajb ears took after the. bunny. "Run children run!" cried the
rabbit gentleman. "IH see if 1 can stop the bad Bob Cat!" The Fox
Bear and Wolf ran also. "We must save Uncle Wiggily!" they said.
"Wait a minute! Wait a minute!" howled the Bob Cat as he' raced
after Uncle Wiggily. "No! No!" answered the bunny rabbit gentle-
man. "I have no time to wait!" and he ran so fast that he ost his
Santa Claus coat The bad Lynx was almost up to the bunny when
all of a sudden along came the Fox Wolf and Bear. "We must help
Uncle Wiggily because he was kind and rave us Christmas presents?'
growled the Bear. "Right you are!" said the Fox and' Wolf. They
took hold of the Bob Cars tail so he couldn't get the bunny or anyone.
"Run along home Uncle Wiggily" said the Fox to the bunny.
"Don't be afraid" added the Wolf. "Well hold Bob Cat tightly by
his tail so he can't get you!" And they did though the Lynx howled
yowled and dug hfe claws in the snow. And when Uncle Wiggily
Baby Bunty and the pjggie boys reached thfhollow stump bungalow
Nurse Jane had the Christmas tree all readv to trim. "What a jolly
Christmas we'll have!" laughed Baby Bunty. "I hope every one has
the most Merry Christmas in all the world!" said Uncle Wiggily.
