the coldest weather in many
.years Wednesday night, shat-
tering a number of records that
had stood since pioneer days.
At International Falls, Minn.,
it was 55 below zero. Chicago
saw the mercury drop to 25
below. Rural mail carriers had
to quit, schools were closed
and business was at | a stand-
still.
At Cincinnati and in North-
ern Kentucky it was 14 below.
Traffic officers were treated
for frozen hands and feet.
