fields, oil pipe lines and refin-
ing centers- in green, and the
gas fields and gas pipe lines in
red. The map on which these
colors are printed is the new
base on the Albers equal-area
projection and shows State* and
county boundaries in gray and
water features in blue.
The map illustrates striking-
ly the widespread distribution
of oil and gas, which have been
found in 26 states, although
• three of the States—Texas. Cal
-ifornia and Oklahoma—produce
more than 80 per cent of the
country's annual output of oil.
In addition to the oil pipe
! lines, in which crude oil is pip-
ed from the producing fields to
refineries, the map show the
recently constructed ppe lines
........ ed from refineries to points of
consumption instead of being
shipped in tank cars as hereto-
