The Eisenhower administration
is talking of easing trade restric-
tions on Russia. Perhaps Dulles
hopes this will sound attractive
enough to the Russians to make
them pressure their Chinese ally.
Dulles will have to guard against
Communist promises directed at
the French in a move to split them
away from this country.
If he goes to Geneva so rigidly

his way entirely on his own terms,
the Communists may turn his
steadfastness against him for their
own propaganda advantage by
making proposals they know he

Here, the driver ahead becomes the object of abuse in a

ICEBOX DEATHS REMEMBERED
(From Memphis Commercial Appeal)
The American people often become stirred up over
something for the time being and then forget all about
it until another tragic reminder comes along. An ex-
ception must be noted in the case of the series of deaths
of children in abandoned iceboxes last year.
A steadily increasing number of states and cities
have taken action designed to safeguard youngsters
against becoming trapped in abandoned refrigeration
devices. In some instances people are required to make
safe disposition of old boxes. In other cases laws re-
quire removal of the latches or locks when boxes are
no longer in service.
Senator John Sparkman of Alabama a few days
ago introduced a bill that would make it unlawful to
ship household refrigerators in interstate commerce
