Humane society baa called the atten-
tion of Cdunty Attorney Cross to the
violations of law in progress as re-
gards dove shooting The open sea-
son began on the 1st instant and will
continue until February 1, during
which period, at the rate of slaughter
in progress, the doves will become ex-
terminated.
Under the statute a gunner is re-
stricted to twenty-five birds in a day.
As practiced they are shooting with-
out limit of count and sold by bulk,
boys and men standing about water
holes and shooting them when thirst
drives them from the feeding grounds.
When feeding their young, doves
gather insects almost exclusively,
which after softening are regurgitated
into the stomach of the nestling.
When the insect period ends they take
to weed seed. As the law protects
doves the humane society will seek to
secure prosecution and put a stop- to
market huntera who are violating the
statutes daily and delivering thou-
