Secretary of "War is Asked to Fur-
nish Certain Correspondence.
Galveston Tex. Feb. 3. In thcJ

vs. James Stillman et. al. a peti-
tion was today filed asking the
court to request the Secretary of
War to transmit to the Federal
Court of this district transcripts of
certain communications passing be-
tween the Secretary of War and the
Attorney General regarding the
validity of the deed made by James
Stillman and also asking for a cer-
tified copy of the latter instrument.
The court authorized that the re-
quests be granted as it is deemed
essential to the ends of justice that
the transcripts oe furnished.
PLAGUE SERUM SUCCESSFUL.
Mazatlan Mex.s Feb. 8. There
were two deaths from the plague
today.
Very satisfactory results are being
attained by the use of the Yersin
serum. Most of the patients to
whom it is given begin immediately
to recover.
Nearly all of the hotels and
boarding houses are closed the
owners fearing in case the plague
breaks out in town the buildings
