BRADSTREETS TRADE REVIEW
NEW YORK., Sept. 14.— Bradatreet’s

It is evident that fall trade in be-
low normal; that industriat operations
are quiet, that bank clearance., with
•tock marketa closed, continue on the
down grades; that failures are numer:
ous and that the general rule is to
buy only for pressing needs. Difficult}
encountered in getting ready money al

myriad of lines. On the other hand
farmers In the surplus wheat pro.
duelne regions have prospered; retail
trade has been stimulated by cool
weather over a wide area; improve-
ment in commercial paper is a hopeful
sign; export trade in cerenis continues
of heavy volume and it is certain that
mors or less business has been done
for European account in btankcetn.

Cables rose to 84 98% and demand
sold up to 84 97%. The advance was
attributed in some quarters to the
belief that the modified British mora-
torium effective early in October,
might not cover these forms of re-
mittance.
Announcement that arrangements
have been perfected, under ynuspices
of the stock exchange for pivate deal-
ings at concessions in unlisted stocks,
which includes the curb, was accom-
panied by intimation that this is pre-
liminary to a similar step in regularly
listed securities.
Bond dealers reported an Increased
demand for the New York City notes

Incidentally, Tennessee secured an
extension in this market of some of
its maturing obligations.

NEW YORK. Sept. 25.—The Interna-
tional committee of the New York cot-
ton exchange today showed that 1100
bales of the old straddle interest had
been liquidated at 9 cents an a remult
of yesterday’s opentions in IAVer-
pool. This makes a total liquidation
of 5900 bales since the plan of the
international committee was placed in
operation and there were rumors that
the outstanding interest had been fur-
ther reduced through private arrange-
ment. . . ...
A report from the special committee
on by-laws suggesting that the mar:
ket be reopened for trading , in gov-
ernment grades was also taken a
pointing to a resumption of business
within the next few weeks.
Repcts from the South Indicated
further declines in the spot markets,
which encouraged rather a pessi mi st l c
view of values among local operators,
while the heavy rains reported in the
Eastern belt failed to create any fresh
sentiment with reference to the size
of the crop.
