This would make it appear aa though the case rested entirely
with the dty and that it was incumbent upon the citizens of Austin to
offer the Texas Power and Light company some special inducement
to come here. But, in fact, the Texas Power and Light company seeks
to extend its lines from Taylor, its present southern terminus, to the
coast, coming through Austin. It has been declared the intention of
the power and light company, with lines starting at Denison, and its
corollary, the Texas Traction company, to extend ite linea the length
of the State. Austin is the logical point for a centrally located power
plant. We must be reached sooner or later. The difficulties, such as
Austin's charter provision, the dam company's ownership of the rights
to the river and the State's stringent regulation of operations on its
. streams, can all be cleared away or surmounted when the Texas Power
and Light company definitely decides to locate in Austin.
However the question of power may be decided between the State
and private concerns, unless all present indications fail, Austin is due
to receive the benefit, in the near future, of the development of great
conservation and irrigation projects, to be made the point for dis
tribution of power and location of terminal facilities to serve a wide
territory. This prospect of almost unlimited development should give
our citizens new faith in the future of their city and cause them to
