The new device for grinding wheat so
as to make the pure whole wheat flour
is at present a specialty followed by
the Quality Mills, and the local con-
cern has developed the plant to the ex-
tent that all local and Central Texas
houses can be furnished both in the
winter and summer.
The idea of thia plant being in-
stalled at the Quality Mills grew out
of the demand for whole wheat flour
in the summer months in Austin and
nearby cities. The first whole wheat
bread used in Austin was made from
flour shipped into this section of the
state from other parts. The shipping
of this class of flour in the summer
months, however, was a failure as the

examining eyes and the fitting
glassee, Mr. Greenberg has establl:
The installment of a plant some
three months ago by the Quality Mills
by which this concern is able to pro-
duce the whole wheat flour has made
it possible for Austin and the sur-
rounding country to secure this
shipped product became infested with
weevils thereby making the sale of the
product impossible. By making the
product in Austin the company has
made it possible for buyers to find the
fresh whole wheat flour available dur-
ing any kind of climate.
The new plant established in the
Quality Mills is a small one because
the idea is new, but local buyers have
found that the Austin made product is
as good If. not better than that re-
ceived from foreign shippers, and the
sale of the flour is increasing steadily.
The plant will be expanded as the de-
mand Increases, for it is the purpose
of the Austin Quality Milla to satisfy
the demand of the public both in quan-
tity and quality. The sale of the new
local product during the first three
months of infancy of the plant aver-
aged 240 twelve-pound sacks of whole
wheat’ flour.
The Quality Mins is at present an
entirely local concern, all of the stock
holders being Austin men. The busi-
ness was established in 1905 by the
Cores Milling Company. In 1910 it was
bought by the Eeguln Milling & Flour
Co. and operated under this name
until Oct 1, 1922, when it was pur-
chased by local men.

Bam Greenberg, Austin's leading
optometrlst, started in practice in this
city thirty years ago on a very small
scale, enlarging his premises from time
to time until at present he has one of
the largest optical establishments in
Texas.
Mr. Greenberg practices optometry
exclusively, having specialized in that
profession from the beginning of his
professional carrer here, and maintains
a force of two registered assistant
optometrists and two opticians.
Although one of the pioneer optome-
trists of the state, Mr. Greenberg has
followed all the new and up-to-date
steps in his profession, and as a result
he has equipped his examination rooms
with the latest and most scientific
eye testing instruments enabling him
to make exact eye examinations and
the prescribing of lenses whenever the
need of glasses are indicated.
Mr. Greenberg was one of the first
in the state to maintain on his
premises a lens grinding laboratory
where skilled opticians, with the aid of
the largest optical machinery, could
grind from rough pieces of glass the
most complicated lenses that might be
required for the aid of optically de-
fected eyes.
In 1895 Mr. Greenberg introduced his
rimless glasses, the first to be worn in
Texas, and that immediately revolu-
tionized the styles in glasses.
