played wonderful ball this season for
the Tyler Trojans and is one of the
heavy stickers Tylor fans are counting

who is fast as greased lightning, has
hit around the .400 mark for Tyler, and
his fielding has been sensational.

chance of closing the season in third
place. During the past two weeks, the
Rangers have been playing scrappy
baseball, and they will fight hard this
afternoon to make their last appear-
ance a pleasant one, as far as Austin
fans are concerned.
Temple and Austin always put on
interesting contests when they meet on
the diamond, and the games of Sunday
should certainly not prove exceptions.
Both Manager A. Rankin Johnson of
the Surgeons and Manager McIver of
Austin have saved hurlers for the final
games of the season. in order to sweep
both ends of the doubleheader.
The Rangers will end today what
must be considered as a rather un-
successful season, both as to winning
percentage and as to finances. Local
owners have lost considerable money
on the club this year. The sale of
Bedford helped quite a bit, of course,
but returns from his sale were not suf-
ficient to make much impression on
the deficit that has piled up.

A New York scribe jumps Benny
eonard because sthe lightweight
champion went through with his fight
with Pal Moran in Cleveland, Ohio, the
other night. He calls Leonard a poor
business man. He makes the point
that when Leonard signed to fight
Mickey Walker, welterweight cham-
pion, Aug. 20, he should have called
off the bout with Moran, arranged
previous to the one with Walker.
The injury to his thumb suffered by
Leonard in the contest in Cleveland
forced postponement of the Walker tilt,
with the consequent loss in interest—
and gate receipts—the Eastern writer
points out.
With Leonard it was not a matter
of business. It was a matter of keep-
ing his promise. He and his manager
had given .their word the champion
would fight in Cleveland. The later
agreement regarding the Walker bout
did not affect that promise.
Leonard valued his word more than
the money he stood to lose. If that is
poor business, give us more rotten
business men in sport. Heaven knows
we need more of them and fewer
sharps.

it cut across the plate.
There were three other home runs

med one in the fourth inning with
Kraft on to put Fort Worth in the
