WORCESTER, Mass., June 5.—A
tie at 291 for 72 holes necessitated
an 18-hole playoff today for the
national open championship by
Bobby Jones of Atlanta, peerless
amateur, and Willie MacFarlane,
Scotch-born professional, at the
Oak Ridge country club in the
Westchester county suburbs of New
York City.
The hour set for the playoff to
begin was 10 a. m. eastern standard
—made famous by

SAN ANTONIO, June 6.—With
the capture of morphine valued at
31000 at "bootleg” prices and the
arrest of two women and one mah
here last night a “dope ring” whoso
operations have been hampered for
the'last month , by the imprison-
ment of its alleged leader. Is be-
lieved by narcotic agents to be defi-
nitely broken.
Narcotic agents raided what is
known as the "house on Quitman
street,” alleged headquarters of the
ring. Three fashionably dressed
women and two men were taken
into custody.
A search of the house bared one
small vial of powdered morphine,
a thousand empty capsules, and a
number of hypodermic needles. The
hunt was continued-tothe yard
surrounding the home. Perspiring
agents found a coffee can contain-
ing the greater share of the mor-
phine under the house. .

NEW YORK, June 5.—The two
weeks of grace which Roald Amun-
dsen allowed before search should
begin for him and his Polar expe-
dition. are over and preparatins
for patrolling the edge of the Arctic
Ice pack are rapidly being brought
to completion.
The Norwegian explorer directed
that a sharp lookout should be es-
tablished along the ice edge if he
and his six comrades, who left
Spitsbergen for the North Pole in
two airplanes on May 21, did not
return within a fortnight. He also
left sealed instructions to be opened
at that time, dispatches from Oslo,
the Norwegian capital say. but the
nature of these instructions is not
divulged.
The Norwegian government is
dispatching to the north a steamer
bearing two naval scout planes
which will be unloaded at Kings
Bay, Spitsbergen and flown thence
to Wellman Bay, Danes Island. to
join Amundsen's supporting crews
on the steamers Farm nd Hobby.
A systematic lookout and search
will be instituted immediately upon
their arrival.
