The same condition confronting
the retail mercantile houses is
found true in other lines notably in
the automobile and accessory trade.
One local firm reports selling <7
cars during the me nth of July
which represents a business aggre-
gating nearly 170,000 for one month.
Wholesalers are also optimistic
over the situation. One wholesale
house reported an inerease of 83
per cent in August this year over
last and expects to average 25 per
cent or better during the coming
months. Another wholesale house
is figuring on an increase of 80 to
25 per cent with the cotton crop
reckoned as 25 per cent below nor-
mal at the present time. This whole-
large broadbasting chain sad public serv-
ice of New Jersey was in demand. Gen-
eral Motors, selling ex the 50 per cent
stock dividend, was quoted at 142% on
the initial sale of 2000 shares.
Improved buying power was evident in
the subsequent dealing despite the absence
of any developments likely to have a
bearing on the general course of the mar-

sometimes toxic backaches and

is often shown by burning or scanty
passage of secretions. Many people

The market turned decidedly firm after

"There is a decided undertone of
confidence noted among the people
in this section this fall,” Lynn Dil-

store declared. “People last year
vere more conservative in their
buying and with the finest condi-

the past decade at hand, we have
reason to expect a handsome in-

One of the most eptimistie among
the Austin merchants is T. H. Wil-
liams, who recently returned from
a visit to New York.
"We are looking for a decided
increase in our business and with
this in view, we have purchased a
bigger and better stock for the fall
trade. There are two reasons why
we may expect an inerease. In
the first place conditions are con-
siderably better than last seasn.
People last year were very eco-
nomical after the agricultural de-
pression and with better conditions
prevailing, these same people will
want more and naturally will pur-
chase more. Cotton prices will hold
up and the farmer will get a good
return on his crop despite the
ravages of the insects in some
places. While I was in New York
cotton prices were falling but the
moment that word was received of
the invasion of the cotton worms
in Texas fields, the market went up
