Women are afflicted by cancer
more often than men. This is due
to its frequent occurence in the fe-
male breast and the female genital
organs. Women have 100 times more
cancers of the breast than men, and
about four times more cancers of the
genital organs.
Cancer affects all parts of the body.
The stomach and liver are the moet
frequent seat of the disease, and can-
cers of these organs, combined, are
responsible for more than one third
of the total cancer deaths in the Unit-
ed States. Cancers of the female gen-
ital organs equal 14 per cent of the
deaths. Cancer of the intestines and
rectum, combined, cause 13 per cent
of the deaths. Cancers of the breast
mouth, skin and other organs are res-
ponsible for the remainder, in the or-
der named.
About one tenth of all deaths in
the United States are at present due
to (cancer. More than 115,000 pepole
died of the disease in this country
during 1929.
Cancer ranked second as a princi-
pal -cause, of death in the United

Meyer Furman, vice president of
the Bakers Supply concern, discover-

by a side window.
Furman said the bonds stolen were
worth $2,000 but were non-negotiabie.

the same nature are common also in |
plants and trees. i
The ancient Egyptians were fami-
liar with cancer. The earliest writ-
ings of India make mention of it And
the most primitive races of man were
no doubt afflicted by it from the very
beginning of their existence.
Cancer attacks both the old and
the young. Babies are born with it,
and the oldest people die of'it Can-
cer is largely a disease of adult life,
however, occurring chiefly between
the ages of forty and seventy. 7
