the least is disappointing to all
concerned and very difficult to

Delay hi Brazos
Bridge Completion
The Grimes County Chamber
of Commerce has received an
answer from their recent letter
to the State Highway Depart-
ment to determine the delay in
the completion of the Brazos
river bridge on highway 90 west
of Navasota. r
Dewitt C. Greer, state high-’
way engineer, in response to a
letter from chamber president,
Jas. F. Martin, advised Mt: Mar-
tin as follows:
"The contract for the deck and
approaches was awarded in.
March of this year to the Aus-
tin Bridge Company of Dallas,
who immediately placed orders
for the steel for the new bridge.
The earliest allocation of steel
that could be’ given under gov-
ernment regulations was for
sometime during the quarter
from July to September of this
year. The steel strike delayed
even this delivery date. Further-
more, government defense or-
ders for steel will at any time
take precedence over other sched-
ules. As a result, the best pros:
poet we now have isfor fabrica-
tion of the steel sometime dur-
ing- the quarter from January to
March, 1953. Erection of the
steel, and completion of the re-
maining items of construction
will then be pressed as much as
is possible, but.lt will probably
be the latter part of 1953 before
the entire bridge is opened to
traffic."
