I want to express my deep and humble appreciation to the
many wonderful people of your county who gave so unselfishly of
their time, effort and financial resources in my behalf. Politics is
peculiar in that a cause has to be carried on in one person's name
— whereas the unselfish labors of many dedicated people, who
get little credit for their sacrifice, are required to make that cause
successful. To those dedicated people who gave so much to this
campaign, I want to say simply that it is my sincere conviction
that your efforts shall not have been in vain. I also want to say
thank you for the gracious hospitality you extended to me, my
wife, my family, my friends and all those who campaigned in my
behalf.
