and Nurdin e has a reputation that will
make the local fighter go some to win
over him. Nurdin has fought all over
the southern country and has succeed-
ed in winning his battles by pure clean
boxing, and if O’Burke wine from him
it will be another feather in the belt of
the Port Arthur Fighter. The main
bout will be held after several good
prelimineries have been staged and all
who attend this bout will receive all
of the excitement that they are look-

BOXING EXHIBITION —
All of the fight fans are looking
forward to the exhibition 'chat will be
pulled off at the rooms of the Ath-
letic Club on December 21st between
Kid Coffey, of Pittsburg, Pa., and Mc-
Farland of Shreveport, La. Both of
these well known fighters have a
reputation of being first class in the
business. Coffey is a member of the
Boilermakers Union and all of the
membership are backing him to win
against the Shreveport lad. From the
present indications there will be the
largest crowd at this exhibition that
has ever been had in the history of
Port Arthur. Coffey is a lad that has
always taken care of himself and has
never dissipated in anyway. He is
a clean boy that loves to use the gloves
and goes into the game for the pleas-
ure of winning. In the past he has
been very successful, having cleaned
up on the bunch of pugs in both New
Orleans and Baton Rouge before com-
ing to Port Arthur. In the coming
event Kid Coffey says, “Boys I will
win the decision, do not be afraid of
choosing me as the real winner.” He
has confidence in himself, and has a
punch that would make some of the
heavy weights look up and take no-
tice. He has all of the requirements
of a real winner and that is the rea-
son that all of the members of not
only the Boiler Makers organization
are backing him to win, but the mem-
bers of the other organizations as well.
It will be well to note that he is go-
ing against one of the best of the
Shreveport boxers when he goes into
the ring with McFarland as this lad
has some reputation himself. He is
the idol of the Shreveport fans and
they are backing their man to win
against all odds. McFarland is a clean
boxer and has a punch that has layed
many of the would be fighters on the
way-side. The bout will be a 10-round
go and although both lads are able to
go to the 20-round limit, the ten round
bout will be fast and furious to the
end. Of course Port Arthur is back
of Kid Coffey, as he is our man and
a resident here, and we think that he
will win, and any one that likes the
boxing game that cares to go to see
the mill will be assured that they have
seen one of the best exhibitions that
they have had the pleasure of seeing
in many months.
In the fight between Jack O’Burke,
the Port Arthur scrapper and Frankie
Nurdine of New Orleans that will be
given before the Athletic Club Mon-
day night, December 6th, the patrons
of the game are assured that they will
receive their money’s worth. Burke
is well known to all of the local people
Cooks and Waiters and the City Bak-
ery. The trouble arose over one of
the second cooks not receiving the
scale of wages that was called for in
the signed contract between the man-
agement and the employes. The Un-
ion men all walked out when it seem-
ed that a settlement could not be ar-
ranged and at the special meeting held
after hearing one of the proprietors of
the Bakery a settlement was reached
whereby all of the former employes-
were placed back to work under the

Barber’s Local No. 641.
Barbers’ Local No. 641 held their
regular meeting last Monday night in
the Eagles Hall. This was one of
the best meetings that the Local has
held this year. Two new members
were initiated and the election of of-
ficers was held. Nearly every mem-
ber in the city was present at the
meeting and a great amount of in-
terest was taken in all of the trans-
actions. Brother Britt was elected as
president, Brother Gilchrist, Vice-
President; Prother L. B. Griffith, Fi-
nancial Secretary-Treasurer; Brother
Simpson, Recording Secretary; Bro.
Rodgers, Guard. Severy proposed
changes in the constitutions were pro-
posed and some lengthy talks were
made on same. All of the members
took part in this discussion which
proved to be very interesting and as a
result a special committee composed
of Brothers Schnell, Griffith and Mur-
ette were appointed to draft a copy
of the proposed changes and have
same ready to present at the next
meeting of the local. All of the pro-
posed changes will be of direct bene-
fit to the members in this city and as
the local has jurisdiction over local
constitutions and by-laws with the in-
dorsement of the international lodge,
it is nearly assured that some changes
will be made.
