Perfumeries avow that the longer a perfume remains fragrant
after application the more popular it becomes. Well, now that
sounds logical, and I will agree with them - to a certain extent.
But what the manufacturers don’t seem to understand or em-
phasize is that it depends upon who is using their fragrances,
and how much the user douses on.
Del Mar Softlight Shades were the first to offer seamless construction up to 60" and locking cord
locks. Now they're even better with an improved cord lock design, less light gap, a thinly sculptured
head rail and bottom rail colored to match the fabric perfectly, and totally concealed mounting
hardware. The new Del Mar Softlight Shade offers elegant simplicity in design. It looks great with
draperies or completely alone. And it s on sale now. Come see how the best just gets better with
over 150 stylish colors to choose from.

Some people go “hog-wild” in their use of
“Umm-how-sweet-it-smells” fragrances available to the G.P.
(general public) these days. No doubt, this is due in part to the
fact that shortly after a perfume is applied, the wearer can no
longer smell it on herself - or himself. (Yes, in our modern society
a large majority of males are avid users of tantalizing essences.)
My, how times change! Not too many years ago the average
man wouldn’t have dreamed of using “pretty-smelling per-
fumes. Most figured that anything that smelled sweeter than
bay rum would rob them of their masculinity and label them ef-
feminate. (Seems to me I’ve heard similar attitudes expressed
toward the wearing of long hair and neck chains.)
But be the user male or female, either can go to an extreme in
applying his parfum, parfumare, or
“ Hey-this-smellum-heap-good. ”
“Boy, does she smell!” a young man expressed his opinion of
a woman who had crossed his path, leaving behind her an over-
powering fragrance generally known as “Pink Elbows or some
such word of designation. “She must have taken a bath in it,
he added.
Being noncommital as fas as conversation, nonetheless, my
thoughts echoed his sentiments. “And it would be such a lovely
fragrance,” I decided, “if it were only used in moderation.”
Maybe those who daub or spray too heavily, take for granted
that because they can no longer detect the fragrance on
themselves, everybody else is in the same boat (can t smell it
either). You’d think surely that the user would catch on when
he/she sees people reel as they walk by.
Makes you want to tell them yourself, doesn’t it? To say
something like, “Your perfume is most unusual. Bet it’s hard to
take your finger off the atomizer sometimes, it smells so good.”
But some people never take a hint. And besides, there are
some things you just can’t tell others (be they friend or foe) and
remain discreet.
Perfumeries combine many essences to come up with the
ultimate fragrances used by those of us who desire to smell
more than naturally human. Oils from flowers, fruits, animals,
balsams, gums and oleo-resins make up their list of ingredients.
Which, as worded, doesn’t sound bad at all. However, since I
learned that one of the essences used is derived from the civet
cat, I’m seriously considering offering my dram to one of the
more liberal consumers.
